Lingerie
Lingerie the word originated in France, and the French translation would be “washables”, Lingerie is most commonly made from, Nylon, Lycra and other materials such as lace, silk, sheer or polyester. The materials used to create lingerie before cotton was available were imported from countries such as India and Egypt.
In France the term Lingerie refers to all underwear, or items of clothing that are classed as a undergarment, however in the UK, Lingerie itself would be taken more literally as a item of sexy underwear that is erotic to look at.
Sexy Lingerie has progressed over the years, originally been designed to replace uncomfortable corsets and to help shape the female body. It was not until the 60’s that lingerie manufacturers didn’t start making lingerie itself to become visually sexually appealing. In this day and age women wear lingerie as both inner and outer wear, this concept if referred to by the French as dessous-dessus.
